Tailbacks caused by toppled trailer

THE NORTHBOUND carriageway of the A90 was closed for an hour and a half on Saturday after an accident involving a vehicle towing a cattle trailer.

The driver escaped uninjured but the trailer containing six cattle overturned, completely blocking the carriageway.

The accident happened around 10.30am about one mile north of Dundee near the turn-off for Moatmill.

The road closure immediately resulted in a long tailback of traffic with a diversion set up at the Emmock roundabout on the north edge of Dundee, where police were advising motorists travelling north to use the A92 coast road.

Vehicles effectively did a U-turn at the roundabout and headed back south on the A90 towards the city’s Kingsway.

That led to delays for traffic travelling south towards Dundee, with officers on points duty doing their best to manage the congestion.

The recovery operation was complicated by the presence of the cattle in the overturned trailer but was achieved with help from Forfar Mart, which supplied a replacement towing vehicle and trailer.

The southbound carriageway was closed briefly to allow recovery but both carriageways were re-opened around 12.20pm.
