LIB DEM candidate Harry Wills has slammed Labour candidate Lindsay Roy’s intransigence over the takeover of HBOS by Lloyds TSB.
He claimed that Mr Roy had said that he backs the government on virtually everything, yet ruled out saving HBOS as an independent Scottish bank when he appeared on the BBC’s Politics Show.
Mr Wills said, “The HBOS merger means that a shadow of uncertainty is looming over thousands of jobs in Fife.
“The proposed takeover of HBOS by Lloyds TSB was conceived when no taxpayers’ money was involved, but the current economic situation is fluid and the banking world has now changed.
“The takeover is now being renegotiated and London Labour should use the taxpayers’ money they invested to save HBOS as an independent financial institution.”
Mr Wills said Mr Roy had failed to stand up for Fife’s workers and Scottish banks.
“He likes to claim he’s not a politician, but in blindly following his party he would have voted for the illegal war in Iraq, for ID cards, for 42 (day) detention and now to abandon Scottish banks and jobs.”
