CANINE ENTHUSIASTS bit back at the credit crunch last night when they shared £11,300 between charities from across Dundee.
Alison Wiseman and her friends from The Dundee Alsatian and Training Club raised the impressive bundle of cash at their charity dog agility show in September.
Judges and winners from the event chose five charities to receive varying amounts, including £4585 to Ninewells Cancer Campaign; £2070 to Breast Cancer Care; £2030 to Guide Dogs for the Blind; £1545 to Riding for the Disabled and £1070 to the SSPCA.
Alison was delighted to present the cheque for Breast Cancer Care to a childhood friend of hers, Arlene Fenton, with whom she had lost touch.
Arlene (32) is battling invasive cancer and has appeared in The Courier many times for her continual fund-raising efforts since she was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2004.
Alison said, “The circumstances are sad but it’s really good to be in touch with her again—she has been really brave!”
l A Dundee mother, who is diabetic, showed her appreciation to the Diabetes Centre at Ninewells Hospital yesterday by handing over a cheque for £600.
Nikki Milne completed the Dundee Running Adventure last month in three hours and 47 minutes as part of a team and raised £500 through sponsorship and donations.
l A Dundee woman who has raised more than £30,000 for street children in Peru through Latin American dance nights, is holding another event in the city.
