MEMBERS OF the Women’s Royal Army Corps (WRAC) Association held their annual meeting at the Queen’s Hotel in Perth on Saturday.
They were joined at the event by Perth and Kinross Provost John Hulbert.
This year marks the 70th anniversary of the Auxiliary Territorial Service (ATS) formed in 1938 for service during the second world war and disbanded in January 1949 on the formation of the WRAC. Thirty-four former ATS members—some of whom went on to serve in the WRAC—were in attendance.
Later in the month the provost will be joined by the lord lieutenant when the women veterans gather at a service in St John’s Kirk.
It will mark the dedication of a plaque to the Scottish women who served in Women’s Army Auxiliary Corps, Queen Mary’s Army Auxiliary Corps, the ATS and the WRAC between 1917 and 1992.
The dedication service takes place on October 30 at 11am.
Nearly half a million women from the UK served alongside male colleagues between 1917 and 1992. 1200 died in service.
Former members are welcome to attend the service.
