AN ELDERLY female motorist from Perthshire was killed in a four-vehicle accident on the main road between Cupar and Dairsie on Saturday morning.
Nancy Cannon (81), of Glenfarg, was fatally injured in the incident, which happened around 11.20am when a car and van collided near Fernie Hall cottages and the Foxton bends on the eastern side of Cupar.
The tragedy was one of four fatal accidents in a black weekend on Scotland’s roads which left another three people dead.
Police, ambulance personnel and firefighters from Cupar, Glenrothes and Lochgelly were called to the scene, and Ms Cannon was released from her car. Her injuries proved to be fatal.
The road between Cupar and Dairsie was closed for over six hours while an investigation took place and diversions were put in place while the scene was cleared. The incident involved three cars and a 7.5-ton box type van.
Inspector David Houston appealed for any witnesses to contact the police on 01592 251111.
Elsewhere, Eleanor Brown (50), from Edinburgh, died on Friday evening after she was in collision with a Citroen in the city’s Chester Street.
A few hours later Jamie Makarewicz (23), from the Falkirk area, was killed when his car left the M9 east of Lathallan.
And in the north-east of Scotland a man died when his 4x4 pick-up truck was in collision with a tractor and trailer.
The crash happened yesterday morning on the A95 Craigellachie to Granton-on-Spey road at Ballindalloch.
Grampian Police also confirmed a man was in a “stable” condition in hospital after being in collision with a bus in Holburn Street, Aberdeen, around 3.40am yesterday.
In Stirling, an 18-year-old man was taken to hospital with serious head injuries after the Citroen Saxo in which he was travelling mounted a kerb and collided with a footbridge in Burghmuir Road.
Central Scotland Police said the 19-year-old male driver and another passenger, aged 18, had received minor injuries.
Earlier on Saturday, shortly after 9am, there was another accident at Five Roads Roundabout on the main Dundee to Kirkcaldy road.
This involved two vehicles, and emergency services including firefighters from Tayport, Dundee and Lochgelly, and the trauma team from Ninewells Hospital, were called out.
A man was removed from his vehicle by firefighters, and was also taken to Ninewells. His injuries are not life threatening.
