THE SKIRL of the pipes rang out triumphantly for Cumnock’s Pipe Major Gordon Walker as he retained the title of Glenfiddich Piping Champion on Saturday night.
Competitors raised the roof of the grand ballroom of Blair Castle in Highland Perthshire, having jetted in from across the globe to prove their piping prowess.
But it was Gordon (41) who won, after almost two decades in the invitation-only contest.

“It is a real honour and I am delighted to have won, especially when I was competing against nine other exceptional pipers.
“I have been working hard throughout the year and to finish off with the top spot has been brilliant.”
