Witness plea after OAP injured in accident

ANGUS POLICE have issued a witness appeal after an OAP was hurt in a road accident on the outskirts of Arbroath yesterday.

The 81-year-old pedestrian was involved in an accident with a car near the town’s Meadowbank Inn in an incident which closed the A92 Montrose road for police accident investigators to examine the scene.

Police said the pensioner had been crossing the road around 1pm when the incident involving a grey Mazda 5 occurred.

“The casualty was taken to Ninewells Hospital, suffering from head injuries,” said a spokesman.

“His condition is not thought to be life threatening. However, given his age, a full accident investigation was conducted.

“This resulted in the A92 at the scene being closed for some hours and traffic being diverted,” the spokesman continued.

Police said they believed there might be witnesses to the accident who have not yet come forward, in particular the occupants of a silver car which was entering Arbroath at the time of the accident.

Any witnesses are urged to contact Tayside Police on 0845 600 5705.

In a separate incident yesterday, Brechin firefighters tackled a car on fire at Mains of Dun on the Brechin-Montrose road around 2.30pm.
