ENVIRONMENT GROUP The Falkland Centre for Stewardship is set to benefit from a £9500 cash injection from the Scottish Government’s Climate Change Fund.
Earlier this year the Climate Change Fund was established to support community-led projects to reduce emissions in Scotland.
The delighted centre programme director Mike Small said, “It’s great news for Falkland and it’s great news for the environment.
“The money will allow us to employ three part-time staff over three months to monitor CO2 emissions.”
Mr Small went on to praise the Scottish Government for addressing the issue of climate change.
He said, “The Scottish Government aims for an 80% reduction in carbon emissions, which is great, but in order to achieve this we need local projects to contribute.
“In terms of tackling climate change the Scottish Government are leading the way.”
Environment Secretary Richard Lochhead said, “Climate change is one of the most serious threats we face as a global community and we all need to play our part in tackling it.”
He added, “The Scottish Government has always been clear that Scotland will play a leading role in the international fight against climate change.”
