DUNFERMLINE CHAIRMAN, John Yorkston has pledged he will listen to supporters’ views on standing at East End Park but conceded it is in the hands of stewards and police.
The more vocal Pars faithful in the North West Stand prefer to stay on their feet throughout games, and have been accused of obstructing the view of others.
While not illegal, this contravenes the club’s health and safety guidelines.
Yorkston said, “This has been something I have noticed over the last few weeks and if supporters want to come and talk to the club about it, then by all means they should do so.
“It is really up to the stewards and police to decide if it is posing a danger, but it is important to keep the balance right for all of the fans.
“Removing some of the seating to provide a standing area has been suggested before, but this would certainly be costly because railings would have to be put in place.
“I’m not saying we couldn’t do it, but if we achieved promotion then the work would have to be undone again.
“The club are always happy to accommodate, but this is clearly a case of pleasing some to upset others.”
A number of fans were ejected from Tannadice for standing during Dunfermline’s 1-0 cup defeat at Dundee United last month.
Yorkston said, “The police in Dundee are always heavy-handed, no matter which ground we are playing at.
“Our travelling support always get behind the team and were excellent that night.”
