DUNFERMLINE STRIKER Graham Bayne saw days of targeted training pay off against Livingston on Saturday after a week spent focusing on what his manager calls a “cut-throat end product.”
Following a disappointing home defeat at the hands of Dundee, the Pars went back to the drawing board to work on delivery and finishing in the final third.
Bayne notched his second of the season at Almondvale, with partner Andy Kirk bagging two more to move up to second in the top scorers table.
“Its always nice to score, but I’ve never been prolific and I’m sure the manager didn’t bring me to the club to score 30 goals in a season,” said Bayne.
“That said, it will not stop me trying to get as many as I can for the team.
“We watched a DVD of the Dundee game at the start of last week and it became quite apparent that we had been trying to put crosses in from too deep.
“The manager had us working hard in training all week to get further up the park and get into better areas before the final ball is delivered.”
Jim McIntyre’s appearance as a sub on Saturday was a key factor in pushing for the late win, with Bayne praising his manager’s attacking philosophy.
“Bringing on the third man up front seemed to work well and, as the manager said after the game, the difference three points can make in this league is quite dramatic.
“Although a draw away from home would have been a good result, we pushed for the win late on and it paid off for us.
“We don’t approach away games differently to any other.
“I don’t know if teams come to East End Park and maybe try and sit in a bit, but we certainly go out and attack in every match we play.
“In this league the top team can play the bottom team and you know either side is capable of winning.
“If a team get on a run they can be catapulted up the league quite quickly because the rest are taking points from each other week in week out.”
With St Johnstone slipping to a draw against Clyde the Pars have gained ground on the league leaders, but McIntyre knows a number of teams could still take the title.
“There are definitely four or five teams still in the mix for the title and there is no clear leader as yet,” he said.
“It is important we take one game at a time and try to hang on to the pack.
“The game against Livingston was a good match for the spectators with play going from end to end, but I thought we deserved the victory.
“It’s great to have both the strikers on the score sheet and putting in a good performance, particularly after working hard on our end product in training.
“Our away form has been good this season and is all about hard work and getting breaks at the right time.
“We could have lost to Dundee and Morton but equally we could have won at home to Airdrie, St Johnstone and Livingston.”
