Dunfermline winger Simon Wiles will undergo a knee operation next week amidst fears his season may be over.
The injury Wiles (23) sustained against Airdrie a fortnight ago is thought to be sufficiently serious that he could be facing five months out which would take him up to the summer when his contract is up.
Wiles only joined the Pars from Blackpool in August.
Dunfermline could have Greg Shields back for the visit of Morton this weekend after he resumed running yesterday but Scott Muirhead is rated only 50-50 to make the game while Kevin Harper is still struggling with a calf problem.
Meanwhile, boss Jim McIntyre drew several positives from yesterday’s 4-0 home reserve win over Ross County, secured by goals from Paul Willis, Steven Bell, Scott McBride and Iain Williamson.
“It was good to see Paul Willis do well and Scott McBride do a bit better than he had been doing,’’ said McIntyre who took part in the game himself.
“A further plus for us was the fact Graeme Holmes played 75 minutes and could have managed the full 90.’’
