‘Best of Scotland’ at education awards

TAYSIDE AND Fife organisations and individuals were honoured during Scotland’s education ‘“Oscars” last night.

At a glittering Glasgow ceremony, the Scottish Qualifications Authority (SQA) handed over a host of Star Awards after turning the spotlight on education and training success stories around the country.

A total of 38 awards in 14 different categories were presented, with Angus College, Angus Council, Dundee College and Kirkcaldy’s Adam Smith College all on the winners’ podium.

Angus College scooped the centre award for innovation, Dundee College was highly commended alongside Renfrewshire Council in the lifelong learning category, and Angus Council received similar recognition in the partnership of the year competition.

The centre roll of honour was completed by Adam Smith College which picked up a highly commended award for innovation.

In the individual awards section, Angus Council’s social work and health department had a trio of staff recognised.

Tricia Lowe was highly commended in the lifelong learning section, while Karen Colville Walker and Eddie Traynor received recognition as part of the SQA champion category.

The ceremony, hosted by TV presenter Kaye Adams, saw SQA chief executive Dr Janet Brown praise the high standards of award nominees.

“Scottish education and training is full of inspirational stories and magnificent achievements from students and centres,” said Dr Brown.

“The response to our invitation for nominations was phenomenal—selecting finalists in each category was very difficult.

“To all who made it to the ceremony, well done.

“You represent the absolute best of Scotland and should take enormous pride in your achievements.”
