Police investigation into Montrose FC complaint

POLICE OFFICERS are investigating alleged irregularities involving bonus payments at Montrose FC.

A complaint has been made by an official at the club and an interim report has been submitted to the procurator fiscal.

Yesterday, the club’s honorary president John Paton called allegations of any boardroom disagreement “totally unfounded.”

He said, “All I can say is that there is absolutely no disharmony in the boardroom or dressing room.

“We have been advised by our solicitor to say nothing else at this stage.”

On the pitch, Montrose are having a successful season and lie second-top of the third division, but off the pitch the club is mired in a dispute with manager Jim Weir, who left a month ago and whose duties are being undertaken by caretaker manager David Hannah.
