Gig helps band deliver Christmas gifts of note

Our picture shows The Windows (front, from left) Iain MacLagan, Richard McCannon, Athole Fleming and Gordon Winton, with some of the recipients of the guitars.

A PERTH band got into the Christmas spirit at the weekend by handing out 100 guitars to various charities and organisations, following a fund-raising concert involving legendary Scots rockers Nazareth.

Fair City band The Windows supported Nazareth as part of frontman Athole Fleming’s Rockin’ for Kids project.

Money raised from the gig, which was held at Perth Concert Hall, went towards providing the guitars.

And Mr Fleming said he hoped the donation might help a future rock legend in the making.

“We are delighted to help so many youngsters in one big event,” he said.

“I know how important music can be and, who knows, maybe in a few years’ time the next Eric Clapton might be from Perth.”

He added, “Some of these children may never have played the guitar before so we wanted to give them that chance.”

Among those organisations that will be benefiting from the guitars were Action for Children, Barnardo’s Hopscotch, Capability Scotland, Perth and Kinross ADHD group and a host of local primary schools.
