Police recover shop raiders’ getaway car

THE CAR which police believe was used by armed robbers who took £3000 from a Dundee shop on Friday has been recovered in Charleston.

The green Renault Laguna had been stolen in the city earlier that day, it has emerged.

Three men wearing hooded tops and balaclavas and armed with knives took the cash from 3000 RPM in West Port just after 5 pm.

Men matching the robbers’ descriptions were seen in a green Renault Laguna on City Road shortly after the crime. But it has now emerged that the car, which bore the registration number R613 HGK, had been stolen from an address in the Gotterstone area of West Ferry earlier in the day.

The car was located in Charleston in Dundee, just after 2 pm on Saturday.

Detective Inspector Colin Gall said, “The Renault Laguna motor car has been traced in Broomlee Drive.

“Door-to-door inquiries are now being concentrated in this area and I would now appeal to residents in this area who may have noticed this car, at any time, in the Broomlee Drive area to report the fact to the police.

“This will aid our inquiries to provide a clearer picture of the movements of the car since the robbery at 3000 RPM in the Westport was reported to us on Friday.”

The vehicle has now been removed by police and will be forensically examined in controlled conditions.

Detectives continued their door-to-door inquiries over the weekend and are also carrying out an “extensive” review of CCTV footage.

Anyone with information should contact Tayside Police on 0845 600 5705.
