Break-in misery for biker Kerry

A MOTOCROSS champion from Fife has had her specialist bike stolen just weeks ahead of the national championships.

In February, Kerry Wilson (20) from Saline will contest the UK girls’ moto-cross championships, a title she has won eight times.

But since her £4800 Kawasaki 250 was taken from her father’s shed in Steelend this month, she has been unable to train—and fears she has been put at a serious disadvantage.

She said, “I had only had it for six months and they definitely knew what they were looking for.

“When my dad told me it had been stolen I didn’t believe him and I had to go the shed and look for myself.

“They have come in and broken the padlock on the shed and then broken the chain on the bike and just wheeled it away.

“All the other girls are in training just now so I will be behind when the championships come up in February.”

Glasgow firm Mickey Oates Motorcycles has offered its assistance.

Kerry continued, “I am hopefully going to get a new one and have had a lot of offers of help.

“Mickey Oates have said they will help me out and give me a good discount on a new bike.

“The problem is that my bike was set up for me and the suspension and brakes were exactly the way I wanted them.”

Just a handful of Scottish women compete in moto-cross, a sport Kerry has been involved in since the age of seven. She rides for the TWMA Kawasaki team, often against men.

Police said the bike was taken from Sunnybrae Terrace, Steelend, sometime during the night of December 3/4.
