THE HEAD TEACHER of one of Fife’s biggest secondary schools has appeared in court charged with possessing child pornography.
David Wilson, rector of Auchmuty High in Glenrothes, appeared in private before a sheriff in his home town Paisley.
The Courier revealed on Saturday that the 47-year-old had been suspended from his post at the 1200-pupil school in Dovecot Road pending a disciplinary investigation, although Fife Council refused to say what the reason was.
Now it has emerged that Mr Wilson appeared on petition at Paisley Sheriff Court on December 22 charged under section 52A of the Civic Government (Scotland) Act 1982 which relates to the possession of indecent photographs or pseudo-photographs of a child under the age of 18.
He made no plea or declaration. The case was continued for further examination and he was granted bail.
The Courier understands the court appearance came after Wilson was arrested at his home by Strathclyde police.
Deputy head teacher Ian Thomson has been appointed acting head teacher at Auchmuty High in the meantime.
He is understood to have addressed the school’s 140-strong teaching and support staff at an in-service day yesterday and is expected to speak to pupils when they return for the start of the new term today.
Mr Wilson was appointed head teacher of Auchmuty, one of three high schools in Glenrothes, almost three years ago.
