DUNDEE UNITED manager Craig Levein has revealed it could be summer before he determines the identity of the man he wants to replace the departing Lukasz Zaluska, writes Graeme Dey
Levein has already been linked with former United keepers Alan Combe and Alan Main.
But the Tangerines chief insisted he’s in no rush. He said, “Everyone knows we are looking for a goalkeeper for next season but I have not spoken to anyone yet.
“I have said all along that I’m going to take my time and look at all the options.
“Lukasz is not going anywhere in January so I have loads of time to assess who’s available.
“It might be nearer the summer before I get something sorted out, although, of course, if someone comes up who I think is good value then that may change.
“And I wouldn’t rule out seeing a few trialists coming in because I’ve had a lot of agents on with names of guys from all over Europe and my desk is piled with CVs and DVDs.’’
United have former Celtic youth player Michael McGovern currently understudying Zaluska.
And although Levein would like to look at McGovern, whose contract is up at the end of the season, in first-team action he won’t be disturbing his line-up at present.
“Michael has been playing reserve games and I think he is improving but that’s no substitute for playing real games,’’ he said.
“I'd like to see him playing first-team football at some point but right now I’m not going to change the side because we’re doing well.’’
Levein expects to settle the future of club captain Lee Wilkie today.
Wilkie has been offered a new deal by United but has also been linked with a summer move to Rangers.
“I will hear from Lee on Wednesday,’’ said the manager. “We’ve agreed to have a chat then and see where we are.’’
