Murder probe continues

Police divers pictured searching the burn in which Robbie Thomson’s body was found last Thursday.

A TEAM of divers from Central Scotland Police have been searching the burn in which murdered Coupar Angus teenager Robbie Thomson’s body was discovered.

The town has been flooded with police officers since the discovery of the 17-year-old’s body on Thursday.

What began as a missing person inquiry took a tragic turn when Robbie’s body was discovered lying in a waterway near his Brodie’s Yard home, on the outskirts of town, by a police dog and handler.

Concerned friends had contacted the emergency services after he disappeared from a party at his home in the early hours.

Tayside police immediately launched a forensic search of the area and yesterday a team of specialist divers from Central Scotland Police were added to the inquiry team to assist with a search of the burn.

Detective Chief Inspector Bruce Kerr, the officer leading the inquiry, said, “We are still conducting a forensic search of the area looking for any items that may be connected to the murder of Robbie Thomson.

“That search will extend to the water today and we have enlisted the assistance of a police dive team from Central Scotland Police to help us do that.

“Over the course of the weekend officers have been speaking to a number of people in a bid to piece together Robbie’s last known movements.

“However, we are still keen to hear from anyone who had any contact with Robbie—either in person or by mobile phone—in the days leading up to his death.”

Anyone who has information that could assist the inquiry team is asked to call the police on 0300 1112222.
