A MAN accused of drug dealing was released on bail yesterday—after he was banned from every prison and young offenders’ institutions in Scotland.
Sheriff Robert McCreadie ordered George McKinlay to stay away from jail during a court appearance in Perth yesterday.
McKinlay was in court to deny a charge that on April 25, he was in possession of the class B drug cannabis resin at Friarton Prison in Perth.
The charge alleges that he intended to supply the drugs to others.
His solicitor Paul Ralph asked that the 45-year-old be allowed his liberty up until the date of his trial.
Sheriff McCreadie agreed to release the accused on bail but requested the addition of a special condition stating that the accused “does not enter any prison or young offenders’ institution in Scotland as a visitor” prior to his next court date.
McKinlay, of Bonhill, Dunbartonshire, agreed to abide with the somewhat unusual condition and will return to Perth Sheriff Court for trial on August 10.
An intermediate diet was fixed for July 16.
