Cycle challenge returns to Perthshire

A THRILLING cycle race is set to return to Perthshire after a successful debut last year.

The Artemis Highland 100 cycle challenge caters for people of all abilities with runs between 86 and 132km from Kenmore to Loch Rannoch and beyond.

Participants travel through on and off road routes to eventually finish at Killin where they will be greeted by a sumptuous feast, specialist sports massage, refreshments and entertainment for the whole family, including a fireworks display to celebrate the finish.

Lindsay Whitelaw, one of the founding directors of the event sponsors, Artemis Investment Management, commented, “I would encourage all participants to get sponsored by family, friends and colleagues to help raise as much money as possible for the extremely worthy charities chosen by the Artemis Charitable Foundation.”

Race director David Fox-Pitt said he hopes the event will be as popular as the recent Great Kindrochit Quadrathlon, a gruelling test of endurance in and around Loch Tay.

He said, “This is the second time we have put on this event and it is truly an event for all to participate in.

“We are hoping that the Highland 100 will be as successful as the Artemis Great Kindrochit Quadrathlon has proven to be.”

Chosen charities for the event are Cancer Research UK and CHAS.

Associate director for Cancer Research UK Jools Tait said, “We are thrilled that so many people have signed up to this fantastic event to help us raise money to support the vital work of our scientists, doctors and nurses.”

Roslyn Neely, CHAS director of fund-raising and communications, added, “We are encouraging all our supporters to either participate on their bikes or as volunteer marshals, at what is shaping up to be an absolutely fantastic event in a truly stunning part of the world.

“All the money raised will be used carefully by CHAS to benefit families across Scotland who have a child, or children, with a life-limiting condition and for whom time together is short.”
