DUNFERMLINE BOSS Jim McIntyre revealed yesterday that he’ll make one more signing this summer—and that’ll depend on whether goalkeeper Paul Gallacher moves on.
As the Pars seek to drastically reduce their wage bill, big names Scott Wilson, Scott Thomson and Greg Shields have all departed along with Kevin Harper, Iain Williamson, Callum Reidford and Stuart Dearden while discussions aimed at securing agreement to tear up Gallacher’s contract which has two years left to run are on-going.
In the meantime only Andy Dowie, Chris Higgins, Joe Cardle and Willie Gibson have been recruited.
And McIntyre admitted replacing Gallacher, if that is required, is the only piece of transfer business he has left to do.
“We’ll have to see what transpires with Paul but I’ve a couple of keepers in mind if we need to go get someone,” he said, “And once that’s dealt with that’ll be that as far as signing people is concerned.”
Pre-season training gets under way for Dunfermline tomorrow and it’s a sign of these economic times that the club will be preparing for the new season at home.
For the past several years, under a succession of managers, the Pars have travelled to Holland, Italy, Spain and Austria for summer training camps.
But this time around passports will not be required.
Only one player will be missing from the first session. Wide man Simon Wiles is continuing his rehab from a serious knee injury under the watchful eye of physio Gerry Docherty. It could be up to four weeks before he is ready to join in full training.
