A MOTHER and daughter who assaulted a woman while on a night out in the centre of Perth will appear at the town’s sheriff court for sentencing on July 29.
Collette Smith (45), of Kinnoull Causeway, Perth, and Chantelle Smith (27), formerly of Princes Street, Perth, but now of Castlefern Road, Rutherglen, Glasgow, both struck their victim a blow to the head with a glass bottle.
They had been enjoying a night out at the Loft nightclub in Perth’s South Street before a confrontation on the dance-floor.
Perth Sheriff Court heard yesterday that the victim had been led away from the pair and escorted from the premises by one of the door staff for her own safety.
However, she was followed from the club and set upon by the Smiths as she left, with Collette Smith landing the first blow—a punch to their victim’s face.
As door staff rushed to help, they saw Collette Smith pull out a glass bottle and strike her victim once to the head.
Daughter Chantelle then joined in, following her mother’s lead by producing a glass bottle and striking the woman on the head for a second time.
Door staff rushed to the woman’s assistance and were able to pull them off their victim.
Two police constables were passing at the time and the pair were quickly identified as being responsible for the assault.
Their victim was taken to Perth Royal Infirmary where she was found to be suffering from soft tissue swelling below one eye and at the back of her head.
She was also treated for bruising and scratching to her back.
X-rays taken revealed no breakages and she was released a short time later.
Footage of the incident was available to the court yesterday.
However, Sheriff Michael Fletcher called for social inquiry and community service reports to be prepared before he viewed the film and passed sentence.
Collette Smith admitted assaulting a woman in South Street on April 3 by punching her to the face and striking her to the head with a bottle to her injury.
Daughter Chantelle Smith pled guilty to assaulting the same woman by striking her to the head with a bottle to her injury.
