Roadworks catch drivers out in spite of warnings

A NUMBER OF Dundee drivers were last night caught out by the start of a five-night roadwork programme on the A90, despite early warnings to expect delays.

BEAR Scotland, who are responsible for overseeing the works, warned motorists last week that large sections of the Kingsway would be closed to traffic and others reduced to a speed limit of 30mph as work got under way on one of the city’s busiest routes.

But as work commenced shortly after 7.30pm on the Old Glamis Road roundabout (pictured), a number of drivers were forced to hastily re-route their journeys causing minor delays and some frustration.

The £160,000 road- resurfacing programme to the Old Glamis Road and Strathmartine Road roundabouts, both of which are key junctions on the main road network, is being carried out by Ennstone Thistle on behalf of Transport Scotland, with the supervision of BEAR Scotland.

They were planned in consultation with Dundee City Council and Tayside Police.

Work on the Old Glamis Road roundabout continues into tonight before road crews move onto Strathmartine Road Roundabout on Wednesday until Friday.

Drivers will be forced to seek alternative travel routes from 7.30pm until 6.30am until the project is completed, while a speed limit of 30mph will be enforced for the safety of motorists.
