No shortage of volunteers for Jocky

DUNDEE MANAGER Jocky Scott asking who is looking to be Dundee’s designated penalty-taker this season could be the catalyst of chaotic scenes, with claims coming from all sides of the dressing room as the candidates for spot-kick king throw their hats into the ring, writes Graeme Dey.

Last season Mickael Antoine-Curier netted twice from the spot for the club.

But he didn’t exactly endear himself to his manager with a silly sending-off against St Johnstone—leading to a massive ban that expires after the first game of the upcoming league campaign.

Consider the fact that he has also missed pre-season because of CONCACAF Gold Cup duty and he could find himself down the pecking order for a start—let alone the spot-kick job.

But Scott isn’t exactly short of options.

Leigh Griffiths scored two penalties for Livingston last year, Gary Harkins netted six for Partick Thistle and Pat Clarke claimed three for Clyde.

Oh, and Colin McMenamin is ready to put his name forward if the job is up for grabs.

He said, “Big Mickael was on the penalties last year and didn’t miss so I’d guess that if he’s playing he’ll take them.

“But maybe a few other lads might fancy the job—me included.

“I took pens for Gretna and Shrewsbury but got pied out of the way at Dundee when Mickael came in.

“However, if there’s a vacancy now I’m up for it,” he added.

“I didn’t miss one out of 13 at Shrewsbury so I’m quite happy to step up.”

For now Scott’s focus is on guiding Dundee through pre-season—and who takes the spot-kicks isn’t top of his agenda at the moment.

However he said that it is an issue he will address very soon, rather than risk an on-field scramble for the role.

He said, “There’s plenty of guys at the club who’ll hold their hands up when it comes to taking pen- alties.

“But we can’t have them fighting for the ball on the pitch so we’ll work something out.”
