Now real nappies get own tartan

REAL NAPPY supporters from across Scotland came together in Perth yesterday to launch the MacNappy Tartan—in a bid to encourage more people to switch from bin to pin.

Parents and toddlers got the chance to try out some of the specially made MacNappies—coloured to represent boys and girls, the environment and the “nappy drying” sun—during the event at the Concert Hall.

MP for Perth and North Perthshire Pete Wishart and Scotland’s environment minister, Perth MSP Roseanna Cunningham, also attended to show their support.

Project officer for the Perth and Kinross Real Nappy Network (PKRNN), Sue Terras, who helped design the tartan, gave a speech about the benefits of reusing nappies.

She said, “They are better for the environment and also a huge cost saver.”

Ms Terras added, “They are also very easy to use, nothing like the old terry towelling ones people might remember.”

She added that there were plans to develop a McTartan nappy for parents to buy.

Ms Cunningham said she was “delighted” to have been invited to the launch.

She added, “Real nappies save waste, save energy and save money and as this new tartan shows, they can look good, too.”

Mr Wishart added, “Better for babies, better for the environment and better for the parents’ pocket, they really are a genuine alternative and I pay tribute to all the folk involved in the Perth and Kinross Real Nappy Network and the other Real Nappy networks across Scotland who work so hard at promoting real nappies and supporting parents in making the choice not to use disposable nappies.”
