Council to pay half of specialist school costs

A CAMPAIGN to fund a specialist school placement for a disabled Perthshire child has borne fruit, after it was announced yesterday that Perth and Kinross Council will meet half the costs.

Two-year-old Jack McNaughton (pictured), from Almondbank, suffers from cerebral palsy and is unable to move his lower limbs.

Health experts claim he would benefit from a placement at the Craighalbert Centre in Cumbernauld for four days a week.

The one-year course, which starts in a few days, would cost just over £12,000 but the council appeared to rule out funding it.

Members of the public and local politicians have rallied behind parents Graham and Stacy, and yesterday the local authority agreed to meet half their expenses for the school.

Stacy said yesterday, “We’re still not happy about the handling of the whole fiasco, but we don’t want to ruin any chance of them taking away that money so we have accepted it.

“Two days is better than absolutely nothing. I’d like to thank people who have made very generous donations and we will be continuing with our fund-raising.”

A spokesman for Perth and Kinross Council said, “The council can confirm that, following further discussions regarding Jack McNaughton, we have made an offer of a two days per week placement at Craighalbert for Jack, which has been accepted by his parents.”

Anybody wanting to help the McNaughtons can contact Stacy on 07936118865.
