£3m roadworks causing ‘no major problems’

THE £3 MILLION East Dock Street road resurfacing scheme in Dundee should still be completed on schedule despite some problems with underground utility services, the man in charge of the project said yesterday.

The 10-week resurfacing and reconstruction of 2.3km of the A92 between Commercial Street and Greendykes Road is now in its seventh week and is yet to cause any major problems on the road.

Eddie Ross (pictured), BEAR Scotland consultancy manager, said reconstruction of the carriageway is now complete between the east side of East Marketgait Junction and Market Street, and westbound between Greendykes Road and Market Street.

Workers had encountered problems with underground utility services at Trades Lane.

He said, “As always, traffic continues to be monitored by Dundee Urban Traffic Control Centre and thanks to the co-operation and patience of the travelling public, no major problems have been reported to date.

“We would like to remind the public that businesses on South Marketgait, East Dock Street, City Quay and the port are accessible and that none of the city centre car parks or shopping streets are affected.”

Work is about to start on the reconstruction of the main eastbound A92 carriageway along South Marketgait, including completion of the footpath and street lighting works.

Westbound traffic will then be diverted on to this section of the carriageway allowing for reconstruction to start on the remaining westbound carriageway between East Marketgait Junction and City Quay Roundabout.

Reconstruction works in East Dock Street are ahead of schedule and the contractor is continuing work to Greendykes Road to ensure the original 10-week programme is achieved.

Work will continue on the installation of the deep drainage chambers and pumping station, a major element of the flood prevention scheme.

In addition, work will also start on the final section of the outfall pipe for the pump station. This is to be installed beneath the West Victoria Dock Rd, within the City Quay Development.
