Looking for a new home for Rocco

STAFF AT Help for Abandoned Animals in Arbroath are looking for a special home for a special dog.

The 12-month-old male Staffordshire bull terrier was found abandoned on Monday after being deliberately dumped in woods near Carnoustie.

Ian Robb, vice-chairman of the charity, said that staff at the centre had noticed that the dog, who they have named Rocco, had “a funny gait, almost a prancing action,” and sought veterinary advice.

The staff were told that Rocco has suffered brain-damage and that his cognitive functions had been impaired, though the vet could not say whether this was the result of trauma or was a hereditary condition.

Rocco’s symptoms manifest as unsteadiness on his feet, his unusual walk and slight nervousness around men.

Mr Robb believes Rocco was dumped in the woods because “he wasn’t a perfect dog.”

But despite Rocco’s condition he is, “a lovely wee fella, he doesn’t have a bad bone in his body, but he can wobble a bit when he gets excited.

“Rocco is still a normal dog,” Mr Robb added. “He just needs a special home.”

Anyone feeling they can offer that should contact Ian on 01241 870168.
