Alloa 2 Cowdenbeath 3: Cowden off bottom of the table with win

Kudus Oyenuga believes his loan spell with Cowdenbeath will provide the platform to fire his way back into the thoughts of Dundee United manager Jackie McNamara.

The Londoner was Tannadice’s forgotten man last season, playing just two minutes for United.

He opened the scoring in the first half, however, latching on to a weak Stephen Simmons clearance before drilling a low shot past Craig McDowall from 18 yards.

Liam Buchanan briefly restored parity on the hour-mark but 45 seconds after the restart Oyenuga struck again, converting a low cross from the excellent Callum Gallagher.

On-loan Rangers kid Gallagher then got the goal his sprightly display deserved as he headed home an Iain Campbell corner kick, rendering a later Greig Spence goal a mere consolation.

The triumph sees Cowden ascend to eighth spot in the Championship, dumping Alloa to the bottom of the league.

“It was a brilliant win, and it’s great to get back off the bottom of the table,” Oyenuga said. “We can play a lot better than that, and I think we will improve, but we got a crucial victory.”
