Raith manager Ray McKinnon looking for team to bounce back after desperate disappointment

Raith boss Ray McKinnon admits it felt like there had been a death in the family on Saturday night after his side threw away what seemed like a certain three points at Dumbarton.

Rovers were 3-0 up going into the last 10 minutes of the game against the Sons but ended up with just one point from the game after conceding three late goals.

However, McKinnon insists there is no time to dwell on what happened and instead he is looking for his players to focus all their attention on tonight’s game at home with St Mirren.

The manager said: “I am still flabbergasted. I didn’t see it coming one bit but it did. It actually felt like a defeat.

“We just need to look at it, rectify it. It was minor details that cost us three points.

“I am disappointed but we are going to focus on the positives from Saturday and eradicate the negatives.

“We have to make sure we are ready to go again against St Mirren.

“Everything went against us in the last 10 minutes at Dumbarton but that happens in football.

“So as much as if felt like there was a death in the family on Saturday night, we move on and make sure we are focused on the St Mirren game.

“We are still gutted with what happened on Saturday but we took a point and if we win we will be back in fourth.

“So we have to make sure we do that.”

With Raith having three games in the space of a week, McKinnon had decided to rotate his squad.

Experienced striker Jon Daly was a sub against Dumbarton but the manager is set to recall the big Irishman tonight.

He said: “We just thought we would go with pace against Dumbarton.

“We felt they would have to come out a wee bit to try to get a victory so we felt that pace would hurt them and it did.

“Mark Stewart did well getting in behind and stretching them. It put them on the back foot and allowed us to go and play a bit.

“But Jon should come back against St Mirren. It is a different game and I just think Andy Webster and his defence won’t come out.

“They are good seasoned pros and they are away from home. They will sit in and play deeper so we will probably play Jon against them.”

Raith will be without the injured Craig Barr and Lewis Vaughan while Mitch Megginson is rated doubtful along with skipper Jason Thomson who was seeing an osteopath yesterday about his back injury.
