Dundee manager Barry Smith is bracing himself for the possible departure of star player Craig Forsyth.

Last season, Forsyth consistently produced performances that put him on the radar of several clubs both here and down south.

St Johnstone boss Derek McInnes is keen to lure the youngster to McDiarmid Park, and Forsyth has also been linked with English Championship sides Crystal Palace and Watford.

He is now back from a holiday in Mexico and will sit down with his family as well as his agent Blair Morgan to decide where his future lies.

Dundee have tabled a new contract in the hope he will continue his footballing education at Dens but it seems certain the 22-year-old will decide to depart for pastures new.

Dundee will be entitled to compensation if he does move to England, although it is not thought to be as high as the £100,000 figure which has been mentioned previously.

“We are waiting to see what Craig decides,” Smith said. “We would be delighted if he opts to stay. Equally, if he chooses to move down south to the right club for the right reasons we would understand his decision and wish him all the best.”

The news comes as Dundee look like losing Gary Harkins to SPL side Kilmarnock.
