Aberdeen 3 Dundee 3: Dons snatch dramatic point

Aberdeen kept their title hopes alive by staging a stunning late fightback to snatch a 3-3 draw at home to Dundee.

The Dark Blues came from behind to lead 3-1 going into the closing stages, but the Dons somehow managed to grab a point thanks to a Jonny Hayes penalty and a Ryan Jack strike late on.

The home side named the same team for the fourth consecutive game as they went for nine league wins in a row, while Dundee made two changes from last time out with David Clarkson and Paul McGowan dropping out to make way for Luka Tankulic and Gary Harkins.

And it was the Dons who grabbed the advantage after just seven minutes.

Niall McGinn robbed Gary Irvine of possession in the midfield, set up Adam Rooney out wide and his inviting ball across the face of goal found the unmarked David Goodwillie who slotted home at the back post.

Their lead should have been doubled in 21 minutes when Rooney missed an absolute sitter after Dundee keeper Scott Bain could only parry a Peter Pawlett effort.

However, they were made to pay as Dundee scored two goals in as many minutes to turn the game on its head.

Gary Irvine fired home a leveller from just inside the area in 38 minutes, before Greg Stewart ended a well-worked move to steer the ball beyond Dons keeper Scott Brown.

Aberdeen started the second half brightly and Rooney hit a post early on, although a superbly struck volley by Gary Harkins in the 48th minute made it 3-1 to the visitors and appeared put the game beyond Derek McInnes’ men.

However, Hayes scored from the spot in 87 minutes after Kostadin Gadzhalov fouled Lawrence Shankland, before Jack scrambled home the equaliser in injury time.
