Dundee 1 Kilmarnock 1: MacDonald wants to focus on the positives

Dundee striker Peter MacDonald has called on team-mates and supporters to draw on the positives from their opening day Scottish Premiership draw with Kilmarnock at Dens.

Last season’s top scorer believes the Dark Blues can head north to Inverness on Wednesday in good heart after an encouraging display against the Rugby Park side.

“You’ve got to take the positives out of the game, especially that second half,” he said.

“I’m sure we can go up to Inverness and get the three points.

“Sometimes they go in, sometimes they don’t it’s a matter of inches, but there’s nothing I can do about it.

“If it goes in, then you’ve scored the winner with the last kick of the ball, if it doesn’t you just get an ‘Oooh!’ from the crowd. That’s all I got and we only got a draw.

“But I thought we deserved all three points after our second-half performance, definitely.

“In the first half we played well but they were dangerous on the counter at times. But I thought second half we controlled the game, had the better chances and Craig Samson’s had a few good saves.”

Dundee took the lead early in the first half when Gary Harkins was sent tumbling in the Killie box by Mark Connolly.

It was a decision that did not please Killie boss Allan Johnston but MacDonald was in no doubt the referee made the correct call.

He said: “From the side where I was in the dugout it was a stonewall penalty. It looked as if Jeebsy’s (Harkins) taken a touch, the boy’s stuck his foot out and Jeebsy’s managed to take another touch and if the foot goes out and you run into it, it’s a penalty.

“Allan Johnston always moans he’s been moaning for years since I was a kid at Rangers with him! Jeebsy’s an experienced player and if some young defender is going to put his foot out, why not use it to your advantage? I’m sure half of his players would do it.”
