Dundee and Abedeen served up a feast of attacking football at Dens this afternoon with the Dons eventually coming out on top.

This was the Dark Blues’ fourth straight loss but they can take a lot of positives from their vibrant display.

There was an explosive start to the game with Aberdeen storming into the lead after just four minutes when David Goodwillie crossed from the right with Andrew Considine heading past Kyle Letheren in the Dundee goal.

The Dark Blues hit back though just three minutes later in spectacular style when Gary Harkins hit a shot from all of 25 yards which flew past Dons keeper Jamie Langfield just inside his right post.

The game settled down for a while but Derek McInnes’s side took the lead once more in the 28th minute with Niall McGinn sending another cross in from the right with the unfortunate Dundee defender James McPake heading past Letheren under pressure from Shay Logan.

The home side then came mighty close to equalising when Harkins embarked on a mazy run past a succession of Dons defenders before playing in David Clarkson whose shot rattled off the base of Langfield’s post.

Ten minutes into the second half, the Dark Blues drew level with a penalty. The Dons Ash Taylor appeared to have handled in the box but there was also a suspicion of a foul on Jim McAlister. Either way, referee Willie Collum pointed to the spot.

Clarkson stepped up to calmly send Langfield the wrong way and rifle the ball into the net.

However, the Dons took the lead for the third and final time in the 64th minute when Logan again crossed from the right with former Dundee United striker Goodwillie bulleting a header past the helpless Letheren from 12 yards to ensure his side secured all three points.
