Dundee 2 Manchester City 0: Watch the action here

Dundee have beaten Manchester City 2-0 in the pre-season friendly at Dens Park.

Simon Ferry couldn’t have chosen a better match to make his Dundee debut than Manchester City.

The English Premier League champions are at Dens on Sunday and the midfielder believes the Dark Blues players are in for an experience of a lifetime.

He said: “I played against Man City in a pre-season friendly for Celtic a few seasons ago. We lost 2-1 at the City of Manchester Stadium.

“Carlos Tevez made his debut back then and came on for about the last half an hour of the match. Tevez was the big attraction that day and I remember when he came on he got a huge reception.

“That was a great experience and when you look at their team now, there are probably even more big names in it. They’re a massive club obviously and aren’t champions of the Premiership for nothing.

“We’re all really looking forward to Sunday and it’s another great opportunity for us to continue our build-up to the new season.”

He added: “A lot of my pals will be coming to the game. They’re genuinely just as excited as I am about facing Man City.

“It’s a great one for the club to be able to attract a side of this calibre, so there should be a decent crowd inside Dens.

“This is what everyone is talking about within the city. As soon as I signed in the summer, I’ve been anticipating this game for obvious reasons.

“The supporters are just relishing getting back into the SPFL and this will whet their appetite for the new season.

“I’m glad they’re sending up a strong squad, because even though it’s pre-season it will still be a good work-out and there’s the novelty factor for the fans to see some of these guys in the flesh for the first time.”

Ferry is already feeling the benefit of the Hungarian training camp from which the players have just returned.

“I didn’t get a pre-season last season,” he said. “I only got back training the week before the season started, so I feel a whole lot better this time.

“The training so far will give me the platform for the rest of the season.

“Tam Ritchie, our fitness coach, really puts us through our paces, but it’s all for the right reasons.

“We aim to hit the ground running and I want to repay the manager for taking me here.”

He said the trip to Budapest helped a squad with nine new signings bond.

“The new boys are all getting on really well,” he said. “There have been a lot of changes, but it shows the manager means business.

“Nine new signings is obviously a lot, but the quality is there and I’m sure we can click.

“There’s a real buzz about the place. We’ve just come up from the Championship and are about to get back into the SPFL.

“We’re working extremely hard and are getting to know each other as each day passes.

“There are a few characters in the dressing-room, but most importantly we will be prepared to fight for each other when the real stuff gets under way.”
