Dundee 3 Ross County 3: Dark Blues storm back to take a point

Dundee produced a stirring fightback at Dens to secure a share of the points against 10-man Ross County in a six-goal thriller.

It was the Staggies who took the lead in the 19th minute when Jackson Irvine counter-attacked from deep inside his own half before releasing Liam Boyce on the left. The in-form striker steadied himself before hitting an angled drive past Dark Blues keeper Scott Bain and into the back of the net.

The response from the home side though was almost instantaneous with Dundee equalising just a minute later when Greg Stewart beat a defender before bursting into the County box to send a shot low past keeper Scott Fox.

However, the Staggies restored their advantage in the 37th minute when Marcus Fraser sent a cross in from the right with home defender James McPake heading past Bain for an own goal.

A bad situation became worse for Paul Hartley’s side just six minutes later when one of the smallest men on the pitch, Michael Gardyne, rose highest to head an Irvine cross from the left with the ball looping back across goal over Bain and into the net to make it 3-1 for the visitors.

Dundee though grabbed a lifeline in the 54th minute when they were awarded a penalty with Staggies skipper Andrew Davies fouling McPake inside the box. The County defender, who had been booked in the first half, received another yellow card followed by a red.

Rory Loy stepped up to calmly send Fox the wrong way.

Loy then scored his second of the afternoon to draw Dundee level in the 69th minute when he latched onto a great pass from Paul McGinn to lash the ball across Fox and into the corner of the net to secure his side a deserved draw.
