Dundee boss sure Clarkson will return to scoring soon if team-mates create more chances

Dundee manager Paul Hartley has challenged his players to provide more ammunition for striker David Clarkson, starting at Partick Thistle on Saturday.

The former Scotland front man has failed to hit the back of the net in his last two games against Inverness and Hamilton which considering his incredible run of eight goals in eight consecutive games before that, represents something of a drought.

However, Hartley insists he is still more than pleased with Clarkson’s overall contribution and he is certain the goals will flow once again if his team-mates can carve out more opportunities for him.

Hartley said: “I think it’s always been the case with Clarky.

“His goals would dry up but not his overall play.

“He’s still playing very well but we just need to try to create a bit more for him.

“Hopefully we can do that on Saturday.”

Like every other side in Scotland, Dundee are gearing up for what is always a hectic festive period with matches coming thick and fast.

However, the manager knows from his own experience as a player that the busy schedule is something to be relished.

Hartley added: “I think the next six weeks are really vital.

“We’ve got a lot of games coming up and we want to get as many points as possible.

“It’s a time of the year you enjoy.

“You’re training and playing constantly and it’s a really tough period but one which we should relish.”
