Dundee goalie Scott Bain more than played his part in cup win

Scott Bain.
Scott Bain.

David Clarkson is quite rightly the talk of Scottish football at the moment because of his incredible goal-scoring exploits for Dundee.

He grabbed all the headlines once again after netting Saturday’s dramatic late Scottish Cup winner against Aberdeen.

However, Dundee also owe a huge debt of gratitude to the contribution of keeper Scott Bain.

The 23-year-old was outstanding throughout, producing some top-drawer saves.

The best though was kept to last when he denied Niall McGinn at the death.

How he got a hand to what was an incredibly fierce rising shot, only he will know.

Dundee boss Paul Hartley signed Bain when he was manager at Alloa after the keeper was rejected, ironically by Aberdeen.

Hartley then snapped him up from the Wasps during the summer and he is convinced the youngster has what it takes to play at the highest level.

Bain also insisted when he signed for Dundee that he had not moved to the club simply to make up the numbers.

He had to be patient with Kyle Letheren’s exploits between the sticks earning him a Wales call-up before he suffered a bad knee injury.

He is now working his way back to full fitness and when he does, it looks like Hartley will have the “nicest” of selection headaches.
