Dundee keeper gets Scotland call-up

Scott Bain.

Dundee keeper Scott Bain has been rewarded for a fine debut season in the Premiership with a Scotland call-up.

The former Alloa and Aberdeen man has been named in Gordon Strachan’s latest squad for the crucial Euro 2016 qualifier against the Republic of Ireland and the Qatar friendly that precedes it.

There is a recall for Charlie Adam, Charlie Mulgrew and Leigh Griffiths, but ex-St Johnstone striker Stevie May has missed out, as have former Dundee United duo Gary Mackay-Steven and Stuart Armstrong.

Bain, who was tied up by Dundee on a new long-term contract last month, could face a race against time to prove his fitness as he is currently out of action with a knee injury.

“Scott is out for the rest of the season,” Paul Hartley said last week.

“He’s got this knee injury and we don’t want to take any risks.”
