Dundee boss Paul Hartley can continue dreaming of cup glory after his team reached the last 16 of the William Hill Scottish Cup last night.

The Dark Blues negotiated a challenging fourth round tie against the Bairns at Dens Park, winning 3-1 thanks to a Kane Hemmings double and another from captain Gary Harkins, with Paul Watson getting on the scoresheet for the Championship club.

With a nice-looking away match against Dumbarton next up for Hartley’s men a week on Saturday, it is looking good for them.

Asked if he thought a trophy was within the capabilities of this Dundee team, Hartley replied: “I believe that.

“It’s just getting through the games, no matter how you win them.

“We will take any win and if we can keep progressing then great.

“We would love to do something in terms of a bit of silverware or get close to it.”

Reflecting on the win over the Bairns and looking ahead to the trip to face the Sons, he added: “We knew we were facing a good team tonight in Falkirk.

“It was one of the hardest draws we could have got but I think we did a good job.

“We were professional and the goals were good.

“We know what is in front of us now and we will pay Dumbarton the respect we paid Falkirk.

“It is a hard one for us in the next round but it’s one we feel we can win.”

Hartley praised man-of the-match Hemmings, saying: “I knew he could score goals but what has really pleased me is his work ethic.

“You could see him chasing back to the corner flag in the last minute.

“I think he is just enjoying his football.”
