Dundee players concentrating on Saints, not America

Dundee’s Paul McGinn admits he would be delighted if the club eventually plays a game in the United States so long as it took place in Las Vegas.

The Dark Blues have begun early talks with Celtic about the possibility of playing a league fixture across the pond with Boston and Philadelphia the mooted venues.

However, if the game ever does come to pass, McGinn hopes Nevada becomes the odds-on destination.

The defender said: “I suppose there’s a lot of red-tape to go through before it ever becomes a possibility.

“I think it’s good that the club is looking outside the box to try to advertise the club a bit more.

“I’m not really sure what it would entail. There would be a lot to look into.

“On the whole, though, it’s something I would look forward to.

“I’ve been to America before but just to fly to Vegas! I would prefer if it was there.

“I think Celtic have been over there for pre-season and stuff so they would know how it could be done.

“That’s all we know just now, but if it becomes an actual fixture then we would know more about it then.

“We haven’t really spoken about it in the dressing-room just a bit. Again, it’s away further down the line.

“I wouldn’t say it’s something we’re too excited about.”

At the moment, though, McGinn is more excited about tonight’s league game against St Johnstone at McDiarmid Park.

He added: “We normally have a good crowd there, behind both goals.

“The Dundee fans always enjoy it. It’s a mini-derby compared to the big one.

“But they’re flying so hopefully we can bring them down a peg or two.

“I don’t think they’ve got above themselves or anything like that definitely not.

“What I mean is that it would be nice to end their momentum a little bit.

“They’re playing well and winning games, with goals coming from all over.

“They’ve got every right to be confident.”

Dundee secured a morale-boosting point last week against Hearts at Tynecastle.

While delighted with the result, McGinn admitted that Dundee need to start turning draws into victories.

He said: “The manager has been stressing that. We’ve not lost a lot of games this season.

“But it’s been too many draws. It’s killing us a wee bit so we need to try and do something about it.”
