Dundee’s David Clarkson tipped to regain scoring habit

David Clarkson.

When David Clarkson netted what proved to be the winner for Dundee in their Scottish Cup tie against Aberdeen on November 29, few would have predicted he would then suffer a goal drought lasting 12 games.

However, that’s exactly what has happened to the former Scotland striker something which is even harder to comprehend considering he scored in each of his first eight games for the Dark Blues.

Now though, his manager, Paul Hartley, is tipping the player to hit the goal trail once more as the season edges to a conclusion, with Clarkson coming agonisingly close to doing so when he was just inches wide with a difficult chance during the draw against the Dons last weekend.

Hartley said: “He had that spell when everything he touched went in the back of the net. Then he’s gone through a difficult spell, which all strikers do.

“Mostly they go through a period in their careers when they have a real hot spell and then things dry up a bit.

“But his attitude has been first class. He has looked sharp in training in the last couple of weeks.

“Hopefully we can get him back playing well again and getting among the goals.

“He’s still got a good goal-scoring record for us.

“He’s not scored for a while but his overall play has been good.”
