Dundee’s Greg Stewart certain team-mate will receive warm welcome

Greg Stewart.

Greg Stewart is sure Nick Ross will receive a great reception today at Dens when Dundee play Inverness from both sets of fans.

Ross joined the Dark Blues this summer after leaving his home town Highland team.

He has firmly established himself as a key player in Paul Hartley’s side and has played every minute of each game so far this season.

Stewart is a big admirer of the 23-year-old although he revealed that quiet lad Ross has yet to reveal any inside information about his former Inverness team ahead of today’s game.

The striker said: “I am sure Nick will be relishing playing against his old side.

“I can’t see him getting stick as the fans really liked him up there.

“He’s from there as well so I am sure he will be looking to get one over them.

“Nick’s a really clever player which we see every day in training.

“He is great technically with his wee touches he is definitely someone you want to play alongside.

“Hopefully, he can maybe chip in with a few goals as well. He seems to get himself into good positions and could have had a couple already this season.

“If he keeps making those runs, he will get goals for us.

“He hasn’t been giving us any wee tips on the Inverness team yet he’s actually quite a quiet lad.”

Stewart and the rest of his team-mates have been itching to get back into action following Tuesday night’s shock 3-1 League Cup defeat against Dunfermline at East End Park.

Dundee are determined to return to winning ways against Inverness, especially before the two-week international break.

He said: “We are looking for the game to come as quickly as possible after what happened on Tuesday.

“The manager played our best team and we should have won the game on the night.

“Credit to Dunfermline though, they did well.

“They sat in and made it hard for us. We didn’t take our chances and they punished us at the other end.

“Hopefully, we can get this win at home going into the international break which is always important.”

Inverness have not had their troubles to seek this season and have yet to win a game.

However, Stewart insists they are still a potent threat, with danger man Ryan Christie a player Dundee will have to watch carefully.

He added: “I haven’t seen a lot of Inverness this season but I have heard they have a lot of injuries.

“But we will not look into that too much. They are a good side as they showed last season, winning the Scottish Cup and doing well in the league.

“They are a big, strong side but they do try to pass it.

“They have lost a couple of players and have those injuries but they have always been a good side whenever I have had the chance to play them.

“They also have Ryan Christie.

“He is still young but is a brilliant little player and I can’t see him being up at Inverness for very long.

“Last season he was one of their danger men and I can only see him getting better.

“We will need to watch him on Saturday.

“However, we will look to get the three points especially playing at home.”
