Dundee boss Paul Hartley has made a deadline day swoop to sign former Hibs striker Paul Heffernan.

The veteran front man joined the Easter Road club from Kilmarnock in August, 2013 but hardly played for Alan Stubbs’ side this season, making 13 appearances and scoring just one goal.

The 33-year-old hadn’t featured for Hibs since coming on as a late substitute in the victory at Raith Rovers before Christmas and was recently told he was free to leave Easter Road.

He was formally released from his contract with the Edinburgh club today and has now joined Dundee until the end of the season.

In what proved to be a hectic afternoon of transfer activity, Hartley signed Stephen McGinn on a permanent deal.

The midfielder made his debut for Dundee on Saturday against Hamilton after joining on loan from Sheffield United.

However, he has now parted company with the Blades and has signed a contract at Dundee.

There is also another new arrival at the club in the shape of youngster Ben Priest from Wolves with the central defender joining Dundee as part of the development squad.

Meanwhile, another two players have headed out of Dens on loan with Phil Roberts and Dylan Carreiro joining Alloa and Arbroath respectively until the end of the season.

Roberts signed for the Dark Blues during the summer and has made 10 appearances for Paul Hartley’s side so far this season but he hasn’t featured since appearing as a sub against St Mirren at the end of December.

The 20-year-old winger will now join up with former Dundee boss Barry Smith at Alloa.

Canadian Under-20 international Carreiro enjoyed a previous successful loan spell with Arbroath towards the end of last year, netting five goals in 11 games.

Red Lichties boss Allan Moore was keen to get him back and the midfielder will now be available to help the League Two club’s promotion push.
