It is right to highlight opposition’s frailties

It is right to highlight opposition’s frailties

Sometimes the path of least resistance is to avoid criticising one team in case it detracts from the achievement of the other.

The easy option when dealing with Dundee’s display in getting a long-awaited league win – and doing so comfortably – would be to ignore just how bad Motherwell were at Dens on Saturday.

It would surely be better to concentrate on the Dark Blues’ four goals and attacking football while relegating the visitors to a mere mention, no?

Sadly, their defending was so bad that to play it down would be a dereliction of duty.

They were, by a fair margin, the worst team I have seen this season and will go down to the Championship unless there is a marked improvement under the management of Ian Baraclough.

They are in severe danger of doing what has become known since the climax to last season as a “Hibs.”

Thankfully, Dundee are in much better shape than the Steelmen, although they do face what is currently the toughest task in Scottish football – a match against Aberdeen – this Saturday.

What this victory will have done for the Dens men is have everyone at the club looking up the table again, rather than in the direction of Well, Ross County and St Mirren.

Mind you, on this evidence, they won’t be the only ones with their eyes cast northwards as the Buddies and Staggies can expect to eventually rope in Motherwell.

It would appear to be only a matter of time.
