Keeper believes Dundee can set sights high after win over Manchester City

Grant Adam: would like to stay at Dens beyond the end of August when his deal runs out.

A wonderful win over football aristocrats Manchester City has convinced Grant Adam that Dundee can live the high life in the Premiership next season.

The Dark Blues beat the cash-laden English champions 2-0 at Dens Park on Sunday and, although it was only a pre-season friendly, it still offered up a lot of optimism.

Recently-signed goalkeeper Adam, who kept a clean sheet on his debut against City, has certainly bought into the feelgood factor.

“It’s a pre-season game at the end of the day but you still want to win every match,” he said.

“You want to stamp your authority on games ahead of the start of the season.

“Man City are champions of the English Premier League after all and I think you saw some great stuff from us out there, which can only augur well for what lies ahead.

“Even looking from the outside before I signed, the players Dundee have been bringing in are massive for the club. I thought we knocked the ball about well and I feel we have some top players.

“There are obviously some things we need to work on but the signs are good. So I think we will be challenging in the top six come the new season.”

Adam, who has put pen to paper on a deal to the end of August but wants to stay longer if possible, was handed a quick-fire debut as a result of an injury to Kyle Letheren and Scott Bain’s illness.

The Scotland under-21 international revealed how the move came about, saying: “I was back up in Dundee last Thursday for my uncle’s funeral. Then I got the phone call saying that Dundee wanted to sign me.

“So I came in on Friday morning and the gaffer told me that Kyle was struggling a wee bit with injury. He then said that I might play a part in Sunday’s game against Man City.

“It was great to do that and I felt I played well. I’m delighted to be here. This is a great opportunity for me to be at Dundee as I grew up supporting the club.

“I’ve got a deal until the end of August but with what’s happened to Kyle and Scott, it has given me an opportunity. Now I want to grasp it with both hands.”

Meanwhile, Dundee boss Paul Hartley remains optimistic of signing German trialists Luka Tankulic and Thomas Konrad despite the pair returning to the home of the world champions.

He said: “We’re working on trying to get Luka and Thomas in. We have already spoken to both their agents so are trying to do something to bring them here permanently.

“Negotiations started on Sunday night and the guys have now flown back to Germany. So we want to try and get them back across straight away and if we could get them tied up for the middle of the week that would be great, and then get them in for the Morecambe game at the weekend.

“It just depends on the financial side of things. The players want to come and they have fitted in really well. The two German lads are our main concern at the moment.

“I think if we could get those two in, then we wouldn’t be too far away in terms of signings.”

Hartley would also like more of a look at former Crystal Palace wide man Keiron Cadogan, who also showed up well against City.

“Kieron will be here for the next two games, which are Brechin on Wednesday and then Morecambe on Saturday. He is a young lad with potential.”
