New Dundee striker Rory Loy ready to answer doubters

Rory Loy insists he is ready to answer the critics who doubt Dundee can hit a barrowload of goals in the top-flight.

Former Falkirk hitman Loy opened his Dundee account with the winner in Friday night’s 1-0 victory over Gary Caldwell’s Wigan side at Dens Park as the Dark Blues gear up for Saturday’s Premiership opener away to Kilmarnock.

Loy, 27, has arrived at Dens over the summer along with fellow frontman Kane Hemmings from Barnsley, and has vowed to show they can deliver in the top tier.

Loy said: “I think some people have been saying that we have to prove we can score goals in the top league.

“That’s because we have signed some boys from the lower leagues. But the manager has a proven record of doing that in the season just past if you look at someone like Greg Stewart,” he said.

“I want to prove to myself as much as to anyone else that I can do it.

“I’ve not really played myself for a prolonged period in the top league in Scotland.

“It’s going to be an interesting season which I’m really looking forward to.”

Loy is buzzing after his second-half strike sunk the Latics to give Paul Hartley’s men a morale-boosting win ahead of tomorrow night’s glamour friendly with Everton.

He added: “It’s always good for the confidence. Getting off the mark is what every striker looks to do when they go to a new club.

“There’s no reason why I can’t hit the ground running because the manager and the boys have been great with me since I arrived, making me feel really settled.

“There are players in the squad like Greg Stewart and Kane Hemmings who can make things. I see it as these guys helping me become a better player and, of course, I want to play as much a part as possible for the team.”
