Paul Hartley’s putting emphasis on building threat up front

Paul Hartley is concerned by the Dark Blues goals-to-games ratio.

Dundee manager Paul Hartley has admitted he is working hard to increase the amount of goals his side are scoring.

So far this season in the Premiership, the Dark Blues have netted seven times in eight matches.

That goals-to-games ratio is worrying the Dens boss and he is looking for his players to start taking full advantage of the chances they are creating.

He said: “I think it is always a concern when you don’t score enough goals. It is something we are working on and have had a look at.

“It is not through a lack of trying or effort but we are just not scoring a lot of goals. We also hadn’t conceded a lot of goals until the last week so we will have to try and fix that.

“I think we are creating enough chances. In the second United game (last Wednesday) we created enough so we just need to find a winning way.”

While Dundee have been less than prolific so far, Saturday’s opponents Aberdeen have been in rampant goalscoring form, netting 10 times in their last three games against Inverness, Livingston and Ross County.

That is thanks in no small part to the blossoming partnership between Adam Rooney and former Dundee United Scottish Cup hero David Goodwillie.

And that threat is something Hartley admitted he was wary of.

He added: “Goodwillie and Rooney have been excellent in the last couple of games that we have watched, so we have to be wary of the threat from those two as well as Peter Pawlett.”
