Celtic game is one to relish, insists Dundee United coach

Coach Darren Jackson believes the clash with Celtic presents the ideal opportunity for Dundee United to get back on track.

You could argue that playing the Hoops, who hammered the Tangerines 6-1 back in August, is the last thing the Tannadice men will want to do after losing by a couple of bad goals to Aberdeen on Saturday.

Jackson doesn’t see it that way, however.

Instead, he is looking for United to meet the challenge head on in the Sunday lunchtime match.

Jackson said: “After losing like we did against Aberdeen, people will be saying ‘Oh no, you’ve got Celtic next.’

“But I think it’s a great game for us.

“There is going to be another full house at Tannadice and our home form had been good up until Saturday.

“We were disappointed with what happened last weekend, particularly with the way we played.

“Every time you go out onto the park, you try to do well.

“Nobody goes out to play badly or not try their best.

“Fans get upset if their team is not playing well but, when it comes to it, the players are professionals.

“And we know when they go onto that pitch there is no lack of effort.

“Mistakes cost us at the weekend so we are looking to get back on track and this game gives us a perfect opportunity to do so.

“The Aberdeen match has gone now, as has our unbeaten home record, so it’s time to move on.

“This is a massive game for us all to look forward to and we want to go and show that we can compete against Celtic.”

Right-back Keith Watson remains a doubt for the Hoops match due to his hamstring injury.

Jackson said: “Keith was feeling his hamstring in the Motherwell game and he just hurt it a wee bit more.

“We are not sure if he will be OK for the weekend.

“Hopefully, we will find out within the next couple of days.”
